Spotify is introducing a new “AI Persona” badge to help listeners identify artist profiles that may represent AI-generated identities rather than real people.
Starting in mid-September, the label will appear on artist profiles, search results and playlists. Artists can voluntarily disclose that they are AI Personas, but Spotify says it will also review profiles using AI-generated imagery and other public identity signals.
The move follows Spotify’s existing AI music disclosure system and its Verified badge for authenticated human artists.
Spotify says the badge focuses on an artist’s identity, not how their music was created. AI-generated music made by human artists will continue to be addressed through song-level AI credits.
Spotify also says AI Personas will generally be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless listeners choose to follow them. The company says its recommendation systems are designed to prioritize authentic artists and reduce spam and low-effort content.
With AI-generated music rapidly increasing, Spotify’s new policy signals a stronger push for transparency and clearer distinctions between virtual and human artists.
